How did we compare the best sites to hire veterinary technicians?
We compared eight sites on four things: who the audience is, what the posting costs, what you get for that price, and what you are committed to afterward.
Every competitor fact on this page was checked on that company's own website, and the price rows use only prices the companies themselves publish.
One disclosure up front: we run VeterinaryHires, and we rank it first — for practices that want a flat, published price and a veterinary-only audience, we think it is the straightforward choice.
It is not the only good option here, and the "Choose X if" lists below say plainly where each competitor is the better fit.
A note on the numbers: the NAVTA and AAHA pricing pages sit behind a bot check, so those figures carry an earlier checked date; everything else was re-verified in October 2026.
Where a company does not publish a price — iHireVeterinary's slot plans, Indeed's sponsored bids, ZipRecruiter's plan rates — we say "Not published" rather than guess.
The numbers for our own product all live on the VeterinaryHires fact sheet, and current launch pricing is on its own page.
Which sites are built for veterinary technicians specifically?
The first four ranked sites put your posting in front of a veterinary-only audience — one commercial board, the technicians' own association, and two association career centers:
- NAVTA Career Center — run by NAVTA, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, which points employers to its career center — "Search open positions or post a job!" If the hire you need is a credentialed tech, this is the board aimed specifically at that job title.
- AVMA Career Center — the AVMA's career center for the whole veterinary profession, with 30-day postings at $249 member / $399 non-member and visibility across the job boards in the Veterinary Career Community.
- AAHA Career Center — the American Animal Hospital Association's board, with the lowest published member price on this page: $99 for a 30-day posting ($199 non-member).
- VeterinaryHires — a job board built only for veterinary practices, with dedicated role pages for veterinary technicians and assistants, and a Google Jobs feed plus a matching role-and-city page with each standard listing.
Hound and iHireVeterinary are also veterinary-only, but both are structured as ongoing platforms — monthly plans and job-ad slots rather than one-posting purchases.
Indeed and ZipRecruiter are the general sites: Indeed has a veterinary-technician hiring page of its own, but a posting there sits beside every other industry rather than in a veterinary-only feed, and ZipRecruiter says it sends each post to 100+ job sites (self-reported) — broad distribution, not veterinary specialization.
What does it cost to post a veterinary technician job in 2026?
Published 30-day prices, cheapest first: the AAHA Career Center at $99 for members ($199 non-member), VeterinaryHires at $199 launch pricing (regularly $299) — a one-time payment that never renews — Hound at $199/month for its Job Posts plan, NAVTA at $209 ($349 for 60 days), and the AVMA Career Center at $249 member / $399 non-member.
Outreach costs extra at the associations, and the audience figures are the associations' own.
AVMA's Premium 30 Day Posting ($549 member / $699 non-member) includes a Job Flash email to more than 13,000 veterinary professionals (self-reported).
NAVTA's Job Flash Package is $369 for 30 days, emailed to 27,000 veterinary professionals (self-reported), with a Premium Job Flash at $469 and an Ultimate Recruitment Package at $679 that adds TalentBoost distribution to 1,000+ sites (self-reported).
Three sites publish no comparable number. iHireVeterinary sells job-ad slots on a subscription and no longer lists slot prices; Indeed's sponsored jobs have no published rate and are billed per interaction; ZipRecruiter starts with a free trial, then monthly or pay-per-day plans.
Our own pricing page shows the full launch-price table.
What do Indeed and ZipRecruiter offer for vet tech hiring?
Indeed works on a different model: you pay per interaction rather than a flat listing fee.
Many jobs can be posted for free, subject to its terms, quality standards and usage limits — and Indeed may require that a job be sponsored.
Sponsored jobs are billed on "job seeker interactions like clicks or started applications," invoiced on the first of the month or when account spending reaches $500, whichever comes first.
New US accounts that post a job get a $75 credit to sponsor their first one, expiring a year after account creation, and you can cancel at any time — the Standard plan has no long-term contracts.
Indeed's veterinary technician hiring page cites 234,140 job seeker clicks on vet tech jobs and 34,361 resumes from job seekers with vet tech experience — self-reported figures, with no time period stated.
ZipRecruiter is the trial play.
New employers get a free trial, then monthly subscriptions with customizable job slots or pay-per-day options, and can cancel anytime from the dashboard.
ZipRecruiter says unlimited clicks and applies are included in its standard rate, and that it sends each post to 100+ job sites including Google Jobs (self-reported).
If you're weighing the generalists against a vet-only channel, see VeterinaryHires vs Indeed or the broader Indeed alternatives rundown.
Can you hire veterinary assistants on the same sites?
Yes.
VeterinaryHires has dedicated role pages for veterinary assistants alongside technicians, so an assistant listing reaches the same veterinary-only audience instead of sitting in a general pool.
The AVMA and AAHA career centers post veterinary jobs generally rather than by role, so support-role postings fit there too, and the general sites carry postings for any role.
NAVTA is the narrow case: its board is oriented to veterinary technicians specifically, so it is the aimed choice for techs and a narrow one for assistants. iHireVeterinary is veterinary-only itself, and part of a larger iHire network that spans 57 industries (self-reported).
How do applications and screening work on each site?
Mechanics differ more than prices do.
On VeterinaryHires, candidates apply on your own link or email — there are no candidate accounts and no resume database, and there is no employer dashboard; support runs by email.
A listing goes live as soon as payment goes through, with no approval step.
And to be plain about limits: VeterinaryHires is not an employer or staffing agency, and no job board on this page decides whether or when a hire happens.
iHireVeterinary includes screening questions, interview scheduling with calendar sync, messaging templates and applicant tracking with its ads.
ZipRecruiter says you can manage and rate candidates in its dashboard, and Hound's Job Posts plan includes profiles of who viewed your job plus messaging to viewers and applicants.
Indeed is pay-as-you-go by design — you are billed for clicks or started applications rather than paying a flat listing fee — which is exactly why the cost comparison matters before you sponsor there.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place to post a veterinary technician job in 2026?
In 2026 the strongest fit depends on how you hire.
For a one-time posting aimed squarely at technicians, the veterinary-only and association options are the closest match: VeterinaryHires at $199 launch pricing for a 30-day listing, the NAVTA Career Center at $209, the AAHA Career Center at $99 for AAHA members ($199 non-member), and the AVMA Career Center at $249 member / $399 non-member.
If you also hire other roles or want volume, Indeed posts many jobs free subject to usage limits and ZipRecruiter offers a free trial.
How much does it cost to post a veterinary technician job?
Published 30-day prices run from $99 for AAHA members ($199 non-member) to $249 for AVMA members ($399 non-member); VeterinaryHires is $199 launch pricing and NAVTA is $209.
AVMA's Premium 30 Day Posting is $549 member / $699 non-member, Hound's Job Posts plan is $199/month, and iHireVeterinary no longer publishes slot prices.
Indeed publishes no set price for a sponsored job — many jobs post free subject to limits and sponsored jobs are billed per interaction — and ZipRecruiter starts with a free trial.
Can I post a veterinary technician job for free?
Yes, on the general sites.
Indeed states that many jobs can be posted for free, subject to its terms, quality standards and usage limits, and it may require a job to be sponsored; new US accounts also get a $75 sponsorship credit.
ZipRecruiter offers new employers a free trial, then a paid plan.
The per-posting veterinary boards here — VeterinaryHires, NAVTA, AVMA and AAHA — publish paid prices only, and VeterinaryHires has no free employer posting option, so its $199 launch listing is the entry point.
What is the best site to hire a veterinary assistant?
VeterinaryHires has dedicated role pages for veterinary assistants as well as technicians, so an assistant listing sits beside tech jobs on a veterinary-only audience.
The AVMA and AAHA career centers post veterinary jobs generally rather than by role, and general sites like Indeed and ZipRecruiter carry postings for any role.
NAVTA's board is oriented to veterinary technicians specifically, so it is the strongest fit for techs rather than assistants.
What should a practice group hiring several technicians use?
Look for plans priced for multiple live jobs.
VeterinaryHires arranges group plans by contacting VeterinaryHires directly: Growth is $899/month for 10 live jobs and Brand is $1,749/month for 25 live jobs (all Featured), billed monthly and cancelable anytime. iHireVeterinary sells job-ad slots on a subscription you can swap, upgrade or cancel anytime, though it no longer publishes slot prices.
The association career centers price per posting, so several openings means several fees.
Is an association career center better than a general job board for hiring vet techs?
They solve different problems.
An association career center (NAVTA, AVMA or AAHA) puts your posting in a veterinary-only audience at a published per-posting price, which is usually the better fit when you specifically need credentialed technicians.
A general job board gives you a free or trial entry point and an audience beyond veterinary practices — Indeed bills sponsored jobs per click or started application.
One approach is to use one of each.
