Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic is looking to add a compassionate BOARD-CERTIFIED VETERINARY SURGEON to join our team.
We have recently moved into a 5,000 square foot updated building on 16 acres with a double OR, surgical prep/endoscopy room, and 7 exam rooms. New digital x-rays system, in house lab, ultrasound ('22), newly purchased endoscope ('24), and ventilator system in OR.
An opportunity to build something extraordinary in rural Maine
What if your next career move wasn't to join an established specialty hospital—but to build one?
We are looking for a board-certified veterinary surgeon who is ready for a unique professional challenge: help us bring advanced surgical and specialty veterinary care to a rapidly growing region of rural Maine.
We are a rapidly growing after-hours veterinary ER that has become a referral destination for our region. Our growth has been remarkable—we are seeing 100+ additional patients every month, and our production has nearly doubled year after year.
The demand is here.
The clients are here.
And the need for specialty medicine is here.
What is missing is access.
The nearest traditional referral center is more than 2.5 hours away, leaving a large geographic area without convenient access to advanced surgical care. Our hospital has already invested in the infrastructure to support high-level medicine, including a modern operating room, substantial oxygen capacity, advanced monitoring, and an emergency team accustomed to managing complicated cases.
Now, we want to take the next step.
BUILD THE CENTER YOU WANT TO PRACTICE IN
We are looking for a seasoned surgeon who is excited by the opportunity to help create and shape a specialty center from the ground up.
This is not an opportunity to simply take over an existing surgery department.
You would have the opportunity to help define it.
Together, we could develop a center that provides advanced surgery and specialty care to patients who currently have to travel hours for it.
You would have the opportunity to:
- Build a surgical service around your professional interests
- Help shape the equipment, facilities, and services we develop
- Establish referral relationships throughout the region
- Work alongside a growing emergency practice
- Help elevate the standard of veterinary medicine in rural Maine
- Develop a long-term vision for a true specialty center
- Mentor and develop the next generation of veterinary professionals
- Create something that could serve this community for decades
A COMMUNITY THAT WANTS ADVANCED CARE
Our area has a unique mix of clients—from families looking for exceptional care for beloved pets to clients who are accustomed to seeking the highest level of medicine available.
We have demonstrated that when advanced veterinary care is made accessible, people will use it.
The growth of our ER has shown us something important: this community isn't asking whether specialty care is needed.
They are asking when they can have it.
AND THEN THERE'S MAINE.
If you have ever dreamed of living somewhere where your days off can mean something completely different from your workdays, this may be your place.
We are surrounded by some of the best that Maine has to offer:
Mountains. Ocean. Forest. Lakes.
We're within reach of Acadia National Park, with world-class hiking, boating, kayaking, and coastal adventures. Skiers can enjoy destinations such as Sunday River and Sugarloaf. There is exceptional camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, and outdoor recreation practically everywhere you turn.
And when you're ready to trade your hiking boots for something a little more refined, Maine offers an impressive food scene—from outstanding local seafood to fine dining and everything in between.
It's a place where you can build an ambitious professional life without giving up the life outside of work.
THIS IS FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS THE NEXT CHALLENGE.
We are particularly interested in connecting with a seasoned, entrepreneurial-minded board-certified surgeon who has reached the point in their career where another job isn't necessarily the goal.
Building something meaningful is.
Someone who wants autonomy.
Someone who enjoys solving problems.
Someone who wants to influence the direction of a hospital rather than simply inherit someone else's vision.
Someone who looks at a region without specialty access and thinks:
“We could change that.”
YOUR LEGACY COULD START HERE.
There are plenty of places where you can practice specialty surgery.
There are far fewer places where you can create access to specialty surgery for an entire region.
This is an opportunity to do more than perform great medicine.
It is an opportunity to change where great medicine is available.
To build a specialty center.
To develop a team.
To elevate veterinary medicine.
And ultimately, to leave behind something that continues serving patients, clients, veterinarians, and communities long after you are finished practicing.
If you're a board-certified veterinary surgeon looking for the next challenge—and the opportunity to build something that matters—we would love to talk.
Rural Maine is growing. Our ER is growing. The need is growing.
Maybe it's time to build what comes next.
