Vet Tech Programs in Indiana

Indiana's 3 entries are Marian University Plymouth in Plymouth, Purdue University in West Lafayette and Vet Tech Institute of Indiana in Indianapolis, and each lists an Associate of Applied Science.

Purdue University is the one institution AVMA splits into two tracks under a single name: an On-Campus Program, which adds the state's only Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Nursing, and a Distance Learning Program.

Vet Tech Institute of Indiana still carries its former name, International Business College, on AVMA's entry — helpful if an older transcript or reference uses it.

What the list does not carry, from calendars to clinical placements, is a question for the school.

Marian University Plymouth is the one Indiana program whose status line is not plain full accreditation: AVMA lists it on initial accreditation, dated February 18, 2021, with a next evaluation listed as 2026.

AVMA's own definition, printed earlier on this page, says initial accreditation is not punitive — it is simply the terminology for newly accredited programs, and it does not mean a program is at higher risk of losing accreditation.

Graduates of an initially accredited program count as graduates of an AVMA CVTEA-accredited program.

The question it raises for an applicant is practical: AVMA's list is a snapshot taken on September 23, 2026, so ask Marian University Plymouth where its evaluation stands before you commit.

The Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Nursing sits on Purdue University's On-Campus Program track, listed alongside an Associate of Applied Science — it is the only bachelor's degree on Indiana's list.

The same track carries the earliest initial-accreditation date of the 3, November 1976, and AVMA's by-state list gives it a next evaluation of 2030, with full accreditation on both of the program's tracks.

The Indiana Board of Veterinary Medicine registers veterinary technicians as Registered Veterinary Technicians, and the registration gates the work itself: the statute bars acting as a registered veterinary technician without registration or a board special permit.

The education route is graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program, and the only alternative written in is a grandfather clause for technicians already registered on August 31, 1981 — no on-the-job route appears in the sources read.
